Abstract

A pupose of this study was to investigate the needs for physical activity of the elderly.
Especially, with socio-economic status of the elderly. The tool for measuring of physical activity needs by Lee(1990) was usid. The reliability of tool on this study was Cronbach¢¥s alpha= .8362. The subjects of this study were 79 participants of the community elderly whose age above 60 years old. Pearson¢¥s correlation, t-test and one way ANOVA were used to analysis the result. And next, Duncan test was used to analysis the significant results.
The findings of the study were as follow
1. The highest items of 42 items were physical strength maintenance, cardiopulmonary function improvement, strong physical strength, metabolism promotion, strong will, digestion promotion, energetic life, self satisfaction, good emotion in order. The highest factor of seven factors was the ne ids of homeostasis.
2. Strong positive correlation between factors was showed except homeostasis factor.
3. The needs for physical activity of the male were higher than those of the female, but those were not statistically significant. The highest factors of the male were homeostasis, achievement and catharsis, those of the female were homeostasis, catharsis and achievement in order.
4. The elderly who take exercise regularly were showed higher needs than those who did not take exercise regularly. And factors of achievement and autonomy were significantly different from those who did not .
5. The needs of high scholarly attainment group were higher than those of lower scholarly attainment group. And the factor of autonomy was significantly different from those of lower scholarly attainment group.
6. The physical activity needs of elderly who think that had to take exercise were higher than those of group think that didn¢¥t have to take exercise.
7. The physical activity needs of medication group were higher than those of no medication group.
8. The physical activity needs of healthy group was higher than those of unhealthygroup.
9. The elderly who live with their family members had higher needs of physical activity than the elderly who live alone. And the factors of affiliation, achievement, autonomy were significantly different from the elderly who live alone.
